Zakat Calculator

Free zakat calculator covering cash, bank balances, gold, silver, trade goods, receivables and investments, less debts due now. Nisab is derived from the classical weights — 87.48 g (7.5 tola) of gold or 612.36 g (52.5 tola) of silver — valued at the metal price you enter, so the threshold is always current rather than a figure saved last Ramadan. Shows the working line by line, and explains which nisab standard applies to a mixed portfolio. Runs entirely in your browser.

For general information only. This tool produces estimates, not financial, tax, or investment advice. Figures can change and can't account for your full situation, so confirm anything important with a qualified financial professional, lender, or accountant. See our full disclaimer.

Today's metal prices

Nisab is the value of a fixed weight of metal, so it moves with the market. Enter today's rates — nothing is pre-filled, because a saved price would be wrong tomorrow.

What you own

In hand, current and savings accounts

Held for sale, at selling value

Loans you expect to recover

Liquid holdings you could sell

Jewellery, coins, bullion

Jewellery, coins, utensils

Subtracted from your zakatable wealth

Enter today's silver price above to work out the nisab threshold.

Assumptions. Nisab weights are 87.48 g gold (7.5 tola) and 612.36 g silver (52.5 tola); the rate is one fortieth. Zakat is due only on wealth held for a full lunar year (hawl), which this tool does not track — check your own date. Scholars differ on which debts are deductible and on the treatment of shares, pension funds and jewellery in regular use; agricultural produce (ushr) and livestock follow separate rules not covered here. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

How to use Zakat

  1. Pick your currency, and whether you want to weigh metals in tola or grams.
  2. Enter today’s gold and silver price. Nothing is pre-filled — nisab moves with the market, so a saved price would be wrong.
  3. Add what you own: cash and bank balances, gold and silver by weight, trade goods, money owed to you, and investments.
  4. Enter any debts due now. These are subtracted from your zakatable wealth.
  5. Read the zakat due, and check the line-by-line table to see how the figure was reached and whether you are above nisab.

Why this calculator asks you for the gold price

Most zakat calculators store a nisab figure and quietly serve it for the rest of the year. That is the one thing a zakat calculator must not do. Nisab is not an amount of money — it is the market value of a fixed weight of metal, 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. When the silver price moves, nisab moves with it, and a threshold saved last Ramadan can be badly wrong by the next one.

Pakistan’s own notified figure shows how far it can move: the threshold for deduction at source went from Rs 179,689 for 2025 to Rs 503,529 for Ramadan 1447 AH. Anyone still working from the older number would be calculating against a threshold less than half the current one. So nothing is pre-filled here. You enter today’s rate, and the nisab is derived from it.

Which nisab applies to you

There are two thresholds because the Prophet (peace be upon him) set nisab in both metals: 20 mithqal of gold and 200 dirhams of silver. Those are not equal in value today — silver nisab is by far the lower of the two. The established approach is that someone holding gold and nothing else uses the gold nisab, while anyone holding a mixture of cash, metals or trade goods uses the silver nisab. The lower threshold means more people qualify to give, which is the point.

The calculator applies that rule for you and says which standard it used, so you can see the reasoning rather than just the answer. If you follow a different position, switch it.

The calculation itself

Add your zakatable assets — cash and bank balances, gold and silver by weight, goods held for sale, money owed to you that you expect back, and investments you could liquidate. Subtract debts due now. If what remains is at or above nisab, zakat is one fortieth of it: 2.5%.

Note where the 2.5% lands. It applies to the whole of your net zakatable wealth, not to the portion above the threshold. Nisab decides whether you owe zakat, not what it is charged on. Getting this backwards is the single most common arithmetic error in zakat, and it understates what is owed considerably.

What this tool deliberately does not decide for you

Zakat has real scholarly variation, and a calculator that hides it is not being helpful. Positions differ on whether jewellery in regular use is zakatable, how to treat shares held long term versus for trading, how much of a long-term debt is deductible, and how pension funds are handled. This tool takes the figures you give it and shows its working; it does not rule on those questions. Crops (ushr) and livestock follow separate rules entirely and are not covered.

It also cannot tell you when your zakat is due. That depends on the lunar year your wealth first reached nisab. The figure here is the amount, not the date.

Working out salary tax as well? The Pakistan income tax calculator uses the FBR slabs for tax year 2026-27.

Frequently asked questions

What is nisab, and what is it worth right now?
Nisab is the minimum wealth at which zakat becomes due. It is defined as the value of 87.48 grams (7.5 tola) of gold or 612.36 grams (52.5 tola) of silver — a fixed weight, not a fixed amount of money. So its cash value changes every day with the metal price, which is why this calculator asks you for today’s rate instead of storing one.
Should I use the gold or the silver nisab?
If your wealth is gold only, the gold nisab applies. If you hold a mixture — cash, silver, trade goods, or gold together with anything else — the widely held position is to use the lower silver nisab, because it brings more people above the threshold and so favours the recipients of zakat. This calculator picks on that basis by default and lets you override it.
Is zakat charged on my whole wealth or only the amount above nisab?
On the whole of your net zakatable wealth, once you reach nisab. This is the most common misunderstanding. If nisab is 214,000 and you hold 1,000,000, zakat is 2.5% of 1,000,000 — that is 25,000 — not 2.5% of the 786,000 above the threshold.
Is this the same as the Rs 503,529 figure the government announced?
No, and the difference matters. That figure — notified on 16 February 2026 for Ramadan 1447 AH — sets the balance at which banks deduct zakat at source from savings and profit-and-loss sharing accounts under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980. It applies to one category of account on one date. Your personal zakat is owed on your total zakatable wealth, using nisab at current metal prices, which is what this calculator works out. A new figure is notified each year before Ramadan.
How long must I hold the wealth before zakat is due?
Zakat is due on wealth held for one full lunar year (hawl) while remaining at or above nisab. This calculator works out the amount, not the date — it cannot know when your zakat year began, so track that yourself. Many people fix a date in Ramadan and use it every year.
Which debts can I deduct?
Debts and bills due now are deducted, and this calculator subtracts whatever you enter. Scholars differ on longer-term debt — some deduct only the instalments falling due within the year, others take a broader view. If you carry a mortgage or a long-term loan, that is worth asking about rather than assuming.
What about jewellery I wear, shares, or my pension?
These are exactly the areas where scholarly positions diverge. Some hold that jewellery in regular personal use is exempt, others that all gold and silver is zakatable regardless of use. Treatment of shares depends on whether they are held to trade or to hold long term, and pension treatment varies with how accessible the fund is. The calculator takes whatever figures you enter rather than deciding these for you.
Does this cover agricultural produce or livestock?
No. Zakat on crops (ushr) and on livestock follows separate rules with their own thresholds and rates, and neither is covered here. This tool handles monetary wealth, metals, trade goods and investments.
Is my financial information sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser in JavaScript. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored or logged — you can confirm this by opening your browser Network tab while using the tool.
