Does the AI model run on my device?

Yes. We use @imgly/background-removal, which ships an ONNX model that runs in WebAssembly. The first time you use the tool, the browser downloads the model (~30 MB) and caches it. Every removal after that is instant — and offline-capable.

Very good for typical product photos and people on simple backgrounds. Hair, fur, and semi-transparent edges are usually handled well. Complex foliage, glass, or very busy backgrounds are harder and may need touch-up.

Why is the first run slow?

The model has to download and initialise. After that, results take 2–10 seconds depending on image size and your CPU. Browsers cache the model so subsequent visits skip the download.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Background removal runs entirely in your browser. The model and the image both stay on your device.

Can I batch-process images?

This page handles one image at a time. For dozens, run them sequentially — the model stays warm between runs.
