How to use Invoice Generator

An invoice that does not need an account

Most free invoice generators are lead capture. You fill in your client’s name and address, your rates, and what you charged them — then hand all of it to a company whose business is selling you accounting software. For a freelancer billing overseas clients, that is a lot of commercially sensitive detail to give away for a PDF.

This one generates the document in your browser. The library that draws the PDF runs locally, the file is assembled in memory, and the download comes from your own machine. No client name or amount is transmitted, which you can verify in your browser’s Network tab while you use it.

What a good freelance invoice contains

Overseas clients, and particularly their finance departments, look for a small set of things: a unique invoice number they can reference in a payment, your full legal or trading name and address, their own details spelled the way their records have them, an unambiguous currency, dated issue and due dates, and payment instructions complete enough to act on without a follow-up email. Missing IBAN details is the single most common reason a freelance invoice sits unpaid for an extra week.

Line items should be specific enough to survive a query months later. “Development work” invites questions; “API integration, 12 hours at $45” does not.

Why line amounts are rounded before they are added

A small detail with an annoying failure mode. If you multiply quantity by price for each line, sum the raw results, and only round at the end, the printed total can differ by a cent from the sum of the printed line amounts. Clients notice, and it looks like carelessness about money. This tool rounds each line to two decimals first and then adds those rounded figures, so what you see always reconciles.

Drafts, clients, and the limits of browser storage

Your working draft autosaves as you type, and you can save a client’s details for reuse — useful when you invoice the same handful of people every month. Both live in this browser’s local storage, which means they are genuinely private but also genuinely fragile: they do not follow you to another device, they do not survive clearing site data, and in private browsing they may not persist at all. Treat the downloaded PDFs as the record of account, not the drafts.

Frequently asked questions

Is this invoice generator really free, with no signup?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark, no per-invoice limit and no email required. The PDF is generated by JavaScript running in your browser, so there is no server to charge for.
Where are my invoices and client details stored?
In your browser’s local storage, on this device only. The current draft autosaves as you type and a list of up to twenty clients is kept for reuse. Nothing is uploaded, nothing syncs to another device, and clearing your browser site data will delete it. Download the PDFs you need to keep.
Which currencies are supported?
USD, EUR, GBP and PKR, formatted properly for each. Amounts are shown to two decimal places, and each line amount is rounded before the subtotal is added up so the printed lines always agree with the printed total.
Can I invoice in USD and get paid in rupees?
The invoice states the amount in the currency you choose; the conversion happens at your bank or payment provider. To work out what a USD invoice leaves you in rupees after platform fees and withholding, use the platform fee calculator, which runs the full deduction waterfall.
Why does the invoice not include tax or withholding?
Deliberately. An invoice is a commercial record of what you are charging, and a tax line printed by a generic tool would imply a position on your tax status that the tool has no basis to assert. If your situation requires a withholding note or a tax registration number, add it in the notes or the from-details field, having confirmed the wording yourself.
Can I add my logo?
Not yet. The PDF uses standard fonts and a clean typographic layout rather than embedded images, which keeps the file small and the generation instant. The from-details field takes your business name, address and registration numbers, which is what most overseas clients need for their records.
How many line items can one invoice hold?
The template is a single A4 page by design, which comfortably fits around fifteen to twenty items depending on how long the descriptions are. Very long invoices are truncated rather than flowing onto a second page — if you regularly bill more items than that, group them into summary lines.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, yes. There are no network requests during use — the PDF library runs locally and the download is generated from memory.
